LI Xiaodong, vice director of China Internet Network Information Center(CNNIC) of Computer Network Information Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CNIC), was elected as member of DNS Security and Stability Review Group, one of ICANN review groups and became the only Chinese expert in a DNS review group, according to news release on ICANN Website October 2.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers(ICANN) is an international organization which is responsible for the technical management and coordination of root servers, top-level domains and IP address allocation. Before then, ICANN had been obtaining the authorization from the US government on the above administrative power through the execution of Memorandum as well as Joint Project Agreement, etc. with U.S. Department of Commerce. On October 1st, 2009, ICANN signed Affirmation of Commitments (AOC) with Department of Commerce and contributed to mechanism independence.
ICANN will turn to be responsible for international internet societies and groups under this document. It is provided by AOC that four review groups are established, namely Responsibility and Transparency Review Group, DNS Security and Stability Review Group, WHOIS Policy Review Group and Consumer Protection Review Group. The purpose to establish review groups is to regularly review the work of ICANN so as to carry out the monitoring and supervision on ICANN. Currently, Responsibility and Transparency Review Group has been established and has started its work.
